Cheapest video card that is equal or slightly better then my AGP 9800Pro?

Have to cobble together a system on the cheap. Gaming is not my highest priority right now but don't want to really go backwards either.
 
How about an 8600 GT/GTS or HD 2600 Pro/XT?

They're cheap, & should last you for a while if you don't care about the best performance.

But most will tell you to wait, since ATi has some improved mid-high range cards en route, & closer toward Christmas, nV will be doing a refresh of some kind.

If you're not gaming, you can go even cheaper btw...
 
In all honesty id wait till the new cards are out and the current/last gen fall down a notch or two. Holiday sales are you friends as well.

If you need a PCE card now on the cheap look at the FS forum or ebay etc. Some decent gaming on the cheap till you buy a more permanent solution.
