My friends ancient rig needs upgrade from Intel pentium 500 MHz / SD Ram/I810 base to a better option with support for fast ram and rasonably good onboard graphics. Please suggest MOBO+ Processor+Ram combos. The upgrade should be as cheap as it gets.
Thanks.

A) there are a ton of threads asked on this topic. Daily. Please search.

B) You're not gonna beat an AXP processor (the 2500+ Mobile is popular, and OCs like crazy), motherboard with NForce2Ultra400 chipset (I'd recommend the Shuttle AN35N-Ultra, unless you want onboard video), and 256-1024MB of CL3 DDR400 RAM.

Biostar M7NCG 400=$65

Mobile 35w 2200+=$77

2x256mb Apacer 3200DDR=$100

You can overclock the mobile past 3200+ speeds easily and run 400DC-DDR synch and even overclock the IGP core with coolbits if desired and have a very fast budget system. I recommend the Apacer only because I've used it in many different nF2 setups in dual channel with zero issues, even overclocked.
