cheapest *small* system?

Hi everyone,

Looking for the smallest possible desktop system for someone. Doesn't need to be ultra super duper mega powerful, but should be at least E350/4GB or equivalent. I'm thinking that a prebuilt system *might* turn out to be the best deal, and those will definitely be considered since the computer is not going to a techie type that cares about whether it was prebuilt or not. The best dollar/performance value in a small form factor is the idea here.

Here's what I'm looking at so far:

Motherboard with E350, $84.99

Antec case, $58.99
http://www.vuugo.com/en/Micro-Towers/Antec-ISK-300-65-Mini-ITX-Desktop-Case/ISK-300-65.aspx

RAM is cheap, so I'd probably just stick 8GB in there for $35 like I did with my computer. I'd like to go ssd+hdd but honestly, for the usage it probably wont matter if it just has a single plain hdd whatever i can find for under $100.

Where I'm really unsure is the power supply. Any recommendations for good quality power supplies for this kind of build?

ps i'm also considering this gigabyte motherboard instead of the foxconn: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...YTE-_-13128468

More expensive but it has USB 3.0, a PCIE 16x slot, just seems better overall. we'll see! open to recommendations on the board of course

You could start with something like this:

It might be a bit more expensive, but i'll definitely be smaller. I think you have to add hdd and ram. THere's a 10% coupon too.

That's what I would have linked to. Thanks!

It is MUCH smaller than anything you can build yourself. How do I know this? I own a dual core Atom version of the same thing. I've also owned literally a dozen ITX motherboards. This little system is SMALLER than an ITX motherboard. It is basically the guts of a netbook without the battery/LCD/keyboard. Just add a single DDR3 SODIMM and your 2.5" notebook sized drive of choice.

Can't seem to find any information about the power supply in that Foxconn, anyone know?

edit: nevermind!

Also check out q180 from Lenovo. With a complete pc and Win7 at ~$300, it's a better deal.

The atom d2700 has HT and benchmarks faster than the e350. All other specs match or better. Don't know if you can get it in Canada though.

Another possibility is an all-in-one.
Scratch & Dent 21.5" for $355.

Lastly, if e350 performance is all you need, you could consider a laptop/netbook. It'd be compact and have the advantage of being portable.

thanks for the suggestions. I can get the lenovo q150 here but that's it (atom d525 and ION)

If you're looking at a mini-ITX E-350 board, I'm selling the ASRock E-350 w/ USB 3.0 for $80 shipped. Check under FS/FT and let me know if you're interested. I'd be willing to negotiate the price a bit. It's been used for about 3 weeks and will come in its original box.
