I want a quiet, cool, fast, efficient, and cheap drive to upgrade some old computers. I know that the less platters the better. Are there single platter drives under 70 bucks in either ide or sata interface? Am I asking too much? :)

Seagate 7200.12 500GB, seagate has been getting a bad rep lately but i own one of the 7200.12 drives and they are fast and quiet.

This is the drive I bought for my Dad's build back in February. Weighing in at 320GB, it's the largest single-platter drive I could find, and not too expensive at $52 shipped (it was $50 back then). It's a nice, basic WD drive with very few moving parts.

The 7200.12 500GB is only $12 more. Is $12 really that much of a concern, for anybody?

can you confirm this is single platter? or either of them actually. because i cant find the specs...
The 500GB 7200.12 is absolutely a single platter drive. 100% positive.

The news that the 250 is single platter was a revelation to me, but here's a link to back it up:
