Cheapest Place to get Windows XP Pro

Hey, I've really wanted XP Pro for a while and now that I have some money maybe I can get it, but most of the places I look have high prices for it. Newegg.com has the FULL version (OEM) for 150 bucks, while i can get the upgrade version at BestBuy for 200. I was hoping there is somewere I can get the OEM upgrade version of XP Pro for pretty cheap.

I don't mind having an OEM copy as I don't really need directions on how to install it, I am confident I can manage.

this would be better off in the for sale or perhaps the hot deals forums.
Tons of people are usually selling a copy there.

I wouldn't mind downloading it, but first my dad wouldn't allow it and second I would feel bad downloading a bootleg copy of a whole O/S, something I use all the time, it just wouldn't be right.

Not sure if that's a word, pretty sure it should be hyphenated if it is 😛

Software piracy is so rife everybody ends up developing their own little code for it. Some of the most common and popular arguments:

a) I can't afford it anyway, so it's piracy or nothing, either way the developer gets nothing except a user, and poor users can become rich customers.
b) Hell, I don't even know if I want it yet, and I'm damned if I'm paying until it's thoroughly evaluated. Until the next version is out should be about right.
c) I'm a student/child/pensioner/benefit fraudster and therefore I shouldn't have to pay in the first place.
e) I'm a geek, and I want a working copy of everything, regardless of whether I use it or not, and can't possibly pay for it all.
c) It's made by MS and therefore paying for it is probably a sin or something

If your concience bothers you, good for you. If you don't do it for fear of your dad... get him a whiskey and do it when he passes out 🙂

1) I'm 14 2) so what, I don't mind runing "unregistered" copies of some things, but a whole O/S is just way too much. Something that I can't run my computer without, even if it is made by M$, I will pay for it.

If you're a college student, you can might be able to get a copy from your school. Check to see if they're part of the M$ program (not sure of the exact name). If they don't have it, you should be able to get the Academic version of Windows XP Pro for around $100. I've been running it for more than a year without any problems. Hope this helps. 🙂
