So I've just 'bout got my '95 Prizm up to snuff.

Did a bazillion things to it this weekend.......(thermostat, tranny oil, radiator flush, spark plugs, air cleaner, bled brakes all the way around & flushed w/ new fluid, new PS fluid, etc. etc.).............

Only thing left mechanically is that I get a slight vibration in the wheel over 65mph. 65mph on So Cal freeways makes you a standing target.......(No Bull)........so I'd like to cruise around 70-75mph to keep up with traffic and I can, but I don't like doing that stuff knowing there's a wheel out of balanace.

Since I haven't had to "pay" to have wheels balanced in a bazillion years.....(I usually just buy Costco Tires w/ lifetime, etc.)........I have no idea where to get 'em done cheap.

Wal Mart?????
Sears?????

Any suggestions appreciated. TIA!

dERRRR..............

Well, at least Dan was honest................Nik just wants 50,000 posts so bad he can *taste* it! ;)

Reason I ask is because I've got a local Big O Tires around the corner that we use for all our work stuff but they want like $30 to do it and usually that's about the price for mounting *and* balancing IIRC.

I was figurin' maybe $5 per tire. $20 sounds fair......$30 sounds kinda steep.

I think I've heard too that some shops have newer equipment that can damn near balance a square wheel these days. So if I was gonna spend $30 on a balance, I'd definitely go to a place that had one of the newer balancers, for sure!

$10.99/tire from Sears (lifetime balancing). $47.xx after tax in Alachua County FL.

The cheapest place I've found here is $34.99 for all four..still way too high, imo - I want to pay ~$20 for all four..lol..

If you can't do it yourself you will have to pay to get it done. I doubt any place is going to do it for much less then what has been listed here. Don't forget you still have to take the tires off the car and put them back on.

No alignment needed at the moment.........at least not enough to cause a high-speed vibration.

Typically that's tire balance or CV joints, but CV's look to be good, so only thing really left is tires.

Definitely gonna be sure to take advantage of ALL my lifetime balance jobs on my Costco tire car. Don't wanna miss that at $40+ a pop, eh??

I guess maybe I'll have to take up Big O on their $30 offer!! :disgust:

Its not worth their time to do it for $20 :p

They ($34.99 shop) will pull a wheel off my car, remove the old tire, mount a new one, balance it, and put it back on the car for 15 bucks...just balancing is much less work. :p
Maybe he'll cut me a deal when I bring the car in..I'll find out, I guess..really needs to get balanced.

so cal freeways have ridges in them. Maybe the new car's suspension is too tight for a comfortable ride at 65.

I thought my tires needed a balance too..... until I hit the 5 to SF and was smooth on the asphalt.

I am with Zim on this one. Alot of local shops sometimes will beat or at least match the price of larger competitor's.

The only friggin way you're going to know is to call local companies and ask what they charge. AT doesn't have this automagical clairvoyance to conjur up service prices for companies local to you unless someone else on the forums lives close to you and does the work for you.

Come on. America's Tires Co. Their prices and maintenence plans will beat Costco, Sears, Sam's Club is just lame compared to Costco, but sure that too, Midas... you name it...
