Well I ordered most of my new system tonight and for some odd reason I had the urge to lok for my XP CD.

I recently moved and low and behold I can't find it.

Cheapest place to buy XP?? It can be Home Edition, I really don't care.

Thanks, goodnight!

If you have the CD key I beleive you may be able to contact MS for a new CD.

If you're a college student, you may be able to get a copy at a substantial discount from your school.

College are the cheapest place to get a Windows XP if ur a student, check out the deals that your school may be offering. I attent www.rit.edu and I can get Windows XP Pro for less than 5 bucks, 3.49 I reckon. If not, try newegg?

IANAL, but...

As other's have mentioned, what you own is the cd key. I believe you are free to use another person's windows xp cd, but you will have to make sure it's the same flavor(IE, if you own an XP home oem key, you will need a home oem disc, if it's pro retail, you will need a pro retail disc). So, if you still have your cd key, just ask around, and see if you can't get your hands on a physical cd. Once you get it installed, you may be able to legally make a copy of it, but I'm not 100% sure about that. XP discs have no copy protection, just search around for a slipstreaming tutorial to help you get the proper options in your burning software of choice.

Colleges rock for software. I just bought Office XP (updating from 97) at a 1/3 of the price. I had to show my id and fill out paperwork for it and only one copy at that rate.

Though technically as soon as you're done being a student you have to delete the software...

How can that ever be policed by MS I have no idea. It's one thing picking out dodgy licenses but the student one will be genuine.

In the UK teachers can get software at the student prices so there can't really be a time limit.
