Cheapest place to buy all your PC parts...

i built my last rig almost exclusively from parts purchased from monarchcomputer (which is out of business now) because there was no tax, good prices, and 10% off when using amex...

just wondering if there's a good one stop shop for a cali resident?

As a Cali resident, newegg isnt always the cheapest due to tax. (Even though we all report our use-tax, correct 😉 )

However, you shouldnt buy everything from one store anyway.

For each component, do your homework. That is the only smart way.

The usual... Resellersratings first, then look around if there have beem problems.

I usually use Newegg. But SVC, Directron, and Amazon make the list too.

I usually just use newegg. Their prices are low, if not the lowest and with regular shipping I get my items within 1-2 days.

Ebay has some sick bargains if you don't mind used. I got a $1500 server for less than $500 even after buying more parts for it

Newegg isn't the cheapest for everything, although they are convenient.
My last build had components from
ebay (using ms live cashback) - monitor
zipzoomfly - motherboard, psu, ram, processor
newegg - hdd, dvd burners, cpu
petrastechshop - fan controller, case fans, heatsink, fan connectors
mwave - case
and believe it or not, tigerdirect for my gpu since they were the only ones with the visiontek 4870x2 in stock

Buying from a few shops is best. For a complete order Newegg is competitive, and shouldn't be significantly more or less than other cheap shops where you'd make a complete order.

Fry's.

They can be a LOT less than Newegg, especially for CPU/motherboard combos.

Newegg is usually the cheapest for 'mainstream' computer stuff. New video cards and cpu. If you're buying a bit behind the curve, they may not be. Also, for less common parts (cases, hard drives, etc) there's a good chance they aren't.
That said, I've never seen newegg give a horrible price, though sometimes shipping costs really rip ya.

Newegg is pretty much it for me. I do occasionally check Zip Zoom Fly, Ebay, MWave, Microcenter. But overall I think Newegg has the best prices and I'm usually willing to pay an extra couple bucks for their service and quick shipping, although MWave has quick shipping too.

I shop around but honestly a lot of places even if they have lower prices the shipping kills it. Newegg seems to have the best shipping costs on average. I do use ebay on occasion for older stuff that I don't mind taking a risk on.

Even though Newegg isn't always cheapest, it's close enough to cheapest and the customer service is awesome enough that I buy everything from them.

I buy from different places, depending on which is the cheapest. I still use pricewatch to look for the cheapest price, among other price searches.

sometimes though, if the price difference is minor i might go newegg on most things anyway

Newegg isn't always the cheapest, but they are my go-to. Their prices are very competitive and their shipping (at least to me) is usually a day faster than they estimate. The fast shipping is worth a few extra dollars to me.

Not recommended. What if when you build your rig 3 months later and find out retailer has 30 or 90 day return policy and you have some bad parts? You would have to deal with manufacturer which is always more of a hassle.

I personally use newegg most of the time and cherry pick the deals that Frys has. Also used xoxide.com fast shipping, no extra charges, would use them again.

I wasn't looking to build up a worse case scenario...best bang for buck is going to be shopping over a few months usually. I would get the base system up and test with existing parts I had.

Most of the deals I have ever found have not been at newegg. Newegg is great to get decent prices, but hardly the best bang for buck.

I usually wind up at newegg for most builds, but you have to be very cautious with their shipping charges, which can be only minimally discounted for multiple items (including featherweight items like flash cards etc.)

I used to run around and buy from different places. NewEegg, Monarch, ZZF, mwave, another name I can't remember, etc etc However, it got to be annoying to constantly keep track of orders from other places. Ordering from NewEgg is super convienent and reliable. that is the main reason I go to them. No need to dick around with Reseller ratings to make sure that shack in Brooklyn isn't a scammer's shop.

I wish there was a company just as big as newegg that operated out of Nevada or something lol....and had no distribution centers in CA. The only place that really competes with NewEgg for me in Amazon because I don't have to pay tax.
