I need to new suit for when I attend my cousin's wedding this summer, so just wanted your thoughts on where to buy a suit. I don't want to have to spend a lot of money since since I'd probably just wear it once or twice a month for church and assorted formal occasions. The only places I can think of are department stores, Brooks Brothers, Mens Wearhouse, and S&K Menswear. Which would you recommend out of those, or are there any others I'm forgetting? TIY

What's your budget? Pretty much any of the places you mention will work.

Corbin makes a decent inexpensive suit.
Call all your local men's stores and ask if they carry that brand.
Please don't go to Men's warehouse, or SnK, those suits stand out like a neon light advertising your poor taste.
Corbin is not that much more expensive, but it can look as good as all but the best $1,000.00 suits.
While the difference may not be immediately obvious to you, realize that you are not that familiar to suits.
Just like noticing CG is often instantly obvious to most of us here on ATOT, and our parents can't tell the difference, folks in the business world, who have purchased many suits, can immediately tell when you walk in wearing a cheap suit.
So, look for:
Corbin
Brooks Brothers
Jos. A. Banks

Also, go look at a
Hickey Freeman
Try on a suit jacket in your size and notice how it feels.
Look at the fabric.
Try to see why it looks better than the $150 suits at the Men's Warehouse.

I just went to go shopping for suits lately at Robinson's May, and Macy's. Most of the suits there are Jones New York and Calvin Klien.
Where could I find corbin suits?

All wool
Navy/solid - no pin stripes
As you buy more suits, you can get pinstripes, glenplaid, tweed, etc....

I firmly believe that a black suit is far better than a navy blue suit. I've heard contrary opinions (popular belief is that you should wear a navy blue suit to a job interview), but I disagree.

Navy blue (IMO) just looks so sloppy. If you want to go with something less formal than a black suit, you're better off going with a light brown / beige suit.

Unless you are going to a funeral, blue is always better. You can wear it all week, just changing shirts and ties around and no one will know.

Ooooh, shirts.
Find a coupon for a $20 shirt from PaulFredrick. As a new customer, they will give you any shirt they carry for that price.YOu need a blue, white, yellow, and pink fitted shirt. Paul's are decent. I personally get mine here:
BrooksBrothers
Every store and shirt manufacturer will tell you their shirt is better than a BB, or cut like it, or fuller, or has more pleats, etc.... you will quickly see why they all compare themselves to Broooks Brothers.

You want to get Pin Point fabric, and button down sleeves from Brooks Brothers in White, Blue, Pink, yellow, and Ecru.

If you are computer nerd, and love the Matrix, black probably is the first one you get unfortunately.

OMG, Black is only worn to funerals, star trek conventions, and nerd fests.
Find for me a CEO or World leader in a black suit.
Dark Navy Blue is the standard.

to me, navy blue suits scream "this is my first real job and my mom told me to buy a navy blue suit."

navy blue is just an awful, awful color. plus, it's really hard to match shoes with them. you can't wear black with dark blue, and brown shoes look pretty bad.

I disagree, for the first suit, a black suit, white shirt is what one would buy because it generically fits all needs. It doesn't have to be pitch black like in the matrix... a lot of them are in different shades or have the striped black if you look close enough... simply due to the fact you can wear one at the funeral, at graduation, at an interview, at a wedding, etc etc

You think they look like their first day at work?

Navy suit is the uniform from entry level to boardroom.
When you see a high profile CEO wearing black, he is selling Dells, book, gateway, or routers or Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. Those guys are badasses, but in an industy they built themselves. They could wear a clown suit to work and be ok. Since you are no Jeff Bezos, dress Like Mel and Sumner.
