What is the cheapest pre-built PC I can buy -- or what kind of specs would it have -- that would allow me to play Bioshock Infinite at high or max settings? Thanks.

What resolution?

Just built a rig recently for $650 with an i5-3570k, GTX 660 and it played the game maxed out at 1920x1200. So I guess pick a cheap intel/amd chip (i3/Celeron G1610 or FX8350) and slap on a good video card (GTX 660 or ATI 7870 at least).

Chip = 125
Mobo = 75
GPU = 175
HDD = 100
Case = 50
PSU = 75

Around $600 but can be considerably less if you jump on the hot deals.

Need some RAM. Assume you've got a legal OS. Street price on Windows can run $100+, depending on the version you buy, though there are a lot of workarounds for students, etc. You can probably scrounge and find extra licenses cheaper. As I build and tear down units, I usually have an idle license here or there (Not OEM, Windows freestanding).

Also assumes you've got a monitor. 24" units can be had for $150-$200. Upwards of $300 if you want high quality or 1900-1200 vs 1080.

Also speakers, cables, decent keyboard and mouse. aftermarket CPU coolers if needed. It all adds up. I told myself my computer was only $600, and don't think about the little things I've bolted on.

Scrounge hot deals or pick up used components from the chronic upgraders, but $600 - $700 is probably a realistic target to shoot for.

probably 1500 dollar range or higher considering the gpu you would need and the markup the prebuilt company would charge you.

Even high end AMD Radeon cards are super expensive on the prebuilt end.

GPU is most determining factor.... (670GTX, 680GTX or 770GTX class or higher... ATi/AMD 7970 (preferred if your really tight on budget.))

No he's asking for us to pick him a Alien Ware... or a HP Gaming series.
Probably an ibuypower will be the cheapest... however it will still probably run you arround 1100-1300 for the settings u want.
A custom would probably cost you a little under 800, which could play bioshock in full settings, as well as a couple other games.

$889

There you are paying roughly $150 above and beyond what you would pay to build a similar machine yourself, not including time spent foraging for deals of course.

Also, this machine has about $100 too much power for what that game needs. So really you could build a system yourself using a 7850 and a lower cost i5 and a lesser case and psu etc and cut the cost even more.

no a GTX 660 (non-Ti) will not allow him to run full settings.
When someone asks for full settings... i assume closest to 60fps as possible, unless they mention 3d.

OP... you want to get as close to 60fps as possible...
the lower you go, the more choppy / shutter it will appear as you play the game.

That puts you on the 7970... A 660Ti will do it... however the system that guy linked is not the Ti.
Again... if ur super tight on budget... look for a prebuilt system arround the 7970, (Intel or AMD) wont matter if the system comes with a 7970 GPU card.

Yeah pretty much what he said...get like an i3-3220 and an h77 board throw in 8gb of ram and a ~$200 gpu and your set...you could even scrimp on the HD if you dont get an SSD...you can buy 320GB HD's for like $25 and thats plenty of room for tons of games...you could probably do it for $500

so i guess at least a 660 Ti would do it...or find a GTX 670 FTW like I did for $250
