Cheapest motherboard for unlocking Phenom ii X2 555 BE

Hello All,
With suggestion from u tech guys, I will be getting Phenom ii X2 555 BE processor for my budget rig. As I have came to know that true potential of 555 BE is after unlocking it to quad core, which is a real bargain for a 100$ cpu.
Now i am looking for motherboard that can successfully unlock 555 BE to quad core.
My requirements are :
1)Cheapest among all capable mob for unlocking.
2)1 pci-E slot(as i won't be doing crossfire, this will off course reduce price)

Guys who hv already successfully unlocked 555 BE and running it stable, can share their thought, which will be helpful to me.

Thanks in advance.

Good one Homerboy,
Nice motherboard.
So does this mean if i get this CPU along with ur suggested motherboard I will be able to unlock 4 core with sure success.
Few questions as u already hv unlocked 555 BE to quad :
1)Is your system stable?
2)Is there any heat issue with stock cooler, having unlocked two extra cores.
3)Have u updated bios in order to unlock 2 extra cores.

There is no 'sure' success'
It is not 100% unlock chance and its mostly depended on the CPU itself. Sometimes mobo maybe a factor, but its ultimately the CPU. It depends on your luck.
Some people say its aobut 50-70% chance

So this means even if I get same processor and motherboard, then also it will depend on my luck whether i got cpu which can be unlocked.(even if it is amd 555 BE).
Anybody who has recently unlocked brand new amd phenom ii x2 555 BE, can put more light on this.

Yes, it is luck of the draw.

Not all 555 BE's will unlock.

Some of the dual cores have a defective core or two, which is why they ended up getting binned as an X2 instead of being sold as a full quad core.

Some, however, were just a product of binning due to market demand. When the forecast for X4 chips have been met, the remaining chips will be binned as X2 (right now, we wiill assume they are the only two bins for simplicity) even if some or most of those chips have complete, fully functional cores that adhere to the specs regarding voltage, temps, and frequency.

So sometimes, the X2 you will buy is really an X2 (has two defective cores), which won't unlock, but sometimes the X2 you will buy is really an X4 binned down to an X2 to satisfy market demands, and that's the one you can unlock.

There is no way to know beforehand which one is which. You'll only know when you've bought the processor and attempted to unlock it. It is a risk you will have to live with.

When you buy a Phenom II X2, you could be getting a lot of things.

You may have gotten a chip that truely has 2 defective cores.
You may have gotten a chip that only has 1 defective core.
You may have gotten a chip that has 1 or 2 cores that require higher than normal voltage to be stable, causing higher power draw from a quad.

Really the list could go on, but the only reason AMD released the Phenom II X2 in the first place was for a way to still sell partially defective processors instead of throwing them away. Then to meet demand for the products they're forced to disable fully functional processors too.

This really is luck of the draw, it's why I'll never purchase a Phenom II X2 while an Athlon II X4 is priced the same.
