Cheapest Mobo with AGP 8x Slots and other questions

Hi everyone,
I recently got a Radeon 9600 video card for my new computer, only to find that I did not have any AGP slots. I wanted to buy a whole new motherboard that has an AGP 8x slot. A friend of a friend found out that my current motherboard is a MicoATX and that I might as well scrap the whole thing and get a different computer in the same price range. Well, that's not an option for me (I won't go into details on that). I wanted to know if I should still try and get a new motherboard (and I'd probably need a whole new case too, right?) or just give up. I'll post any specs needed if that will help my cause. I really don't know what to do right now and any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hey, if you're trying to badmouth someone, at least know your facts beforehand.

ASRock have been spun off ASUS to copy the ECS/PC-Chips business model and product strategy. ASRock is not ASUS. They're desperate enough to even steal product names from PC-Chips (see M810LMR).

PC-Chips however are a pretty large company that has been building notebooks for Apple, who own ECS, SuperMicro and a pile of other related companies; also, they make mainboards for Shuttle, Abit and quite a few others. Not counting the latter, they're only a tad smaller than actual ASUS.

Buy from the inventors of cheap simple boards that work.

glad you're happy w/ ya PC-Cheap. It's still a crapy brand regardless how large company is. And yes I do know about the same company that makes board for other brands but we're not talking about Abit, Apple or Shuttle here. I am talking about in term of poor support/warranty and substandard parts.

You need an Intel board then. If the Celeron is the older PIII core and under 1ghz, you maybe better off to get a cheap AMD setup.

You mean, substandard parts like counterfeit, short lived capacitors that PC-Chips oh-so-strangely didn't have but practically everyone else did?

I work in mainboard design - and we can tell a clean, working, easy to manufacture design from a desperately cost-reduced one.
And if you like more warranty and babysitting than what's usual in OEM business, buy the same stuff from the Elitegroup retail outlet. You'll buy an ECS 748A then, not a PC-Chips M848. Same thing.

You should at least grow up far enough to spell company names correctly. Sharing your experience and opinion is one thing - this kind of disrespect is just kindergarten.

That's what I figured, but I just want to make sure that if I get a new motherboard it will actually work if I put it all in a new case. Let me just post some specs so you guys can see what I'm talking about.

Memory: 256MB DDR SDRAM
Case: Gateway Micro-Tower Case
Expansion Slots: 3 PCI Expansion Slots
Video: Integrated Intel® Extreme Graphics with up to 64MB dynamic video memory

Chipset:
Intel® 845GV System Chipset
Intel® 82845GV Graphics and Memory Controller Hub GMCH
Intel® 82801DB I/O Controller Hub (ICH4)

lxcnwy, you need to check on the thing's power supply unit, particularly before you aim for a high specification videocard. Then again, if you're going to reuse that Celeron processor, it'll never be fast. Despite its high MHz figures, it's a very crippled CPU, hardly as fast as e.g. an AMD Duron at 1.6 GHz.

That done, there are plenty of microATX boards from the board vendors that cater to large OEM customers (like Gateway ;)) - ECS/PC-Chips, Biostar, Chaintech, ASRock, plenty of others.

Easy with the reply button, my friend ;)

But yes, my above statement is in no way what and how it should have been. That'll teach me to post stuff before having a coffee first. We apologize for the confusion.
