Cheapest lappy meeting the following requirements...

Scouzer

Lifer
First of all, isn't a 2ghz Pentium M close to as fast as a 3.4ghz Pentium 4? If so, what the heck is the point of using a Pentium 4?

Secondly, about my original question...what is the cheapest lappy that meets:

1gb RAM
60gb HD
Pentium M 2.0ghz
Geforce 6800 or 7800 or x800

This will be a desktop replacement, but I don't want it to annihalate my money

From everything I have read a good multiplyer to go by is 1.6 for the PM's. So a 2ghzX1.6= around a 3.2 in most aps.

If you can find a coupon for dell (best I can find is 25% off) dell is the best price you will find. If you don't like dell I would look at Sager.

canadians get crap for coupons

got a $200 coupon...9300 with 6800 for $1859 + free shipping...canadian dollars of course

so what the heck is the point of using a p4 if the pm is so much better? and the 6800 go would be slower than my 6600GT eh...was hoping for something a bit faster...but the next step is like $1500 more

The Pentium-4 is a dinosaur. It's essentially a 1920's era V16 compared to a modern V4; the V4 might put out a bit less horsepower, but it's a far better engine.
I personally would go with Sager instead of dell. I have had bad experiences with Dell, personally.

man the 9300 is getting bad reviews....

sager is about $1000 more expensive for a similar centrino....with the benefit of the 7800. and i'd pay about $150 for shipping.

What cheesehead is trying to say is that the Pentium M's are much more efficient. They do more work per clock cycle and use a LOT less power doing it. There are some weak points to the P-M, but not enough to make one to want a P4 in a notebook.
