Cheapest front-load washing machine?

I'm doing some *preliminary* research on washing machines, since the one I've got is tiny and old. It still works, but when it eventually conks out, I plan on getting a front-load washer.

I'm not big on features or touchscreens or specific 'jobs' that these new-fangled washers have, but I do have one must-have feature:

It must be front-loading.

"Why?" you ask. Because front-loading washers don't agitate clothes - they simply spin them. The lack of an agitator (that big sharp plastic arm in most top-load washers) means MUCH less wear and tear on clothing, and it also uses MUCH less water (since it doesn't have to fill a tub completely) and electricity, which can save money in the long run.

So, fellow bargain hunters, what's the lowest-priced front-load washer you know of? I can only find some that are $800, $900...I'm looking for something in the <$500 range.

Thanks! 🙂

i saw one in the last best buy ad for $299 or $399
i'll try to find it

edit:
must have been 2 weeks ago.
i can't find the ad.
anyone know website that would have a 2 week old ad scan?

I too would like to know!

I just looked on best buy and they have nothing less than $800 for a front loader!
My uncle purchased one from sears for about $700.

My problem is I rent the house from my cousin. I would hate having to take the thing
with me to my next place, which will be a place of my own.

I'd rather buy the best top loader than a cheap front loader. Hell, I'd rather buy this engineering masterpiece than any front loader:

The smart way to wash clothes...
  • The Smart Drive system connects a programmable motor directly to the agitator by a single stainless steel shaft. There are no belt, gears, or pulleys to break down. The autowasher senses each load, sets the water level and adjusts the wash action to produce a superior wash.
What is Smart Drive?
  • Unlike conventional machines, our autowashers use intelligence to continually adapt the wash action and water level to suit the load.

How? Sensors in the electronics monitor clothes movement and adjust the agitator for either a gentle or lively action. It's rather like hand washing, where your hands communicate the feel of the fabric to the brain, which in turn tells the hands how hard or soft to rub the clothes.
