Hi :)

My m8's just gone and bought without doing any homework a AMD K62 500 and a Soyo 5EMA+ which uses a "ETEQ" chipset for gaming :(
He's having loads of probs with it probably due to that eteq chipset? :(

Im goin to recommend he take them back and get a duron combo :)

The Duron 600 is an obvious choice but what about a cheap and reliable Socket A mobo?

Ur help be appreciated,

rockhard =)

thanx office boy

the guys on a budget so reckon the Soltek SL-75KV be ideal for him as its quite a bit cheaper than the Asus and he aint in to overclocking :)

Heh, cant be any worse than the bits he's already got! ;)

The FIC AZ11 can be had for ~$98 on Pricewatch along with a $47 Duron 600

Its not reaally an "ETEQ" chipset, its just a sticker placed over the chipset which is an VIA apollo MVP3 chipset. I had the exact same motherboard, so i know what i'm talking about. If your having any problems with it, its probably because you haven't installed the VIA 4in1 drivers.

Just curious, what kind of "loads of probs" are you having with it?

And yes, i would recommend you return it and get a Duron. The price is probably the same, and the performance is 2 or 3 times better.

Fraid i aint had a look at the system but,

He says that he's installed the drivers, 4in1's and all that but when he tries to play games it just kicks him back to windows?

Im thinking that his bios is defaulting to cas2 as some of the other soyo's do when his ram is cas3? hmmm?

He's my boss and dont reckon he'll take too kindly to me telling how to do things :(
Ive offered my help and advice and reckon he's just going to have to sort it out on his own unless he's prepared to ask for my help. Heh, i dont get any joy in seeing the guy suffer. Ive been there and want to get him runnin stable again so i can play him on Quake2 online on sunday eves again :)

Take a look at the new Epox board just reviewed at mobo_review. It has the dips for O/C performs 'bout the same as ASUS and ABIT but less $$$'s

Edit to correct EPOX. Wish the site would have posted OC results.
