Well, here is what I did; I have a main office room in the house and was trying to get the computers in my Kid's rooms to share the main dsl connection. There was no way to pull wire under the house or thru the attic, based on the way the design is. I looked into wireless and about crapped....almost $1000 to do what I wanted to do. :Q
Here is what I ended up doing:
Drilled the outside wall in my office, ran cat5 cable around the outside of the house, stapling as I went, then into each of the Kid's rooms. It ended up being about 120' of cable by the time I got it done. Once I got all the drilling and cable runs made, I bought some of those plasic junction boxes like you would have in the wall for 110volts. I put two in my office wall, cutting the squares with my handy dremel tool, then one in each of the Kid's rooms. When I got it all done, I had 2 rj45 jacks in my office wall, close together, and 1 in each Kid's room.
It was all coasting from there. I took my DSL modem, ran it into one of the ports on my 5 port linksys hub. Next I took 2 patch cables and plugged them into the hub, then into the wall jacks and plugged the Kid's computers into the jacks in their walls. Finally, I plugged my pc into the hub and voila!!!! 3 working full time internet connections. Don't know that that's the cheapest, but I think it's the best, under the circumstances. We can network too. 😀
