what's the cheapest dedicated host (will give me an entire server to myself to do as I please with on their fast connection, or let me ship my server to them)?

holy sh1t that's way too much! ($89/mo). Goddamn all I want is a ridiculously fast connection with which to serve pages. Is there any other way?

If you are serving pages why do you need a dedicated machine? A shared hosting account should be more than enough for most websites.

Agreed. My server is colocated (I do a LOT more than serve pages) and the highest cost is the bandwidth. You'd be better off just getting a hosting account.
 
Perhaps a VPS would be a good choice for you then. They're not going to have the power to run Half-Life, but you get full root access so you can install things like Jabber servers (Jive-Messenger is a great Jabber sever BTW). In the VPS arena, I've had great luck with www.linode.com

Why don't you just use your own machine and just buy the bandwidth you need?
 
I had good luck with serverpronto.com ... and they have a package for like $30. They have EMAIL Support only but I had them for a good year or two with no problems. The catch? Most of their IP blocks are blacklisted ... so don't plan on using it for a mail server. Other than that its decent.
