I want to play Oblivion at 1680x1050 with all the settings maxed out. What is the minimum build that can do this? Will I need a 8800GTS card? Core2Duo with 2GB 800 RAM? I want to invest the least but still be able to play this game at its best and still get a fluid frame rate. What do you suggest? I'm terribly torn in my decisions on building this system and keep emptying out my shopping cart after I think my mind's made up. I'm building from the ground up and want to cut corners where I can. (Example, I'm using a $55 7200rpm 160gb hard drive, cheap DVD-ROM/CDRW drive, cheap case and inexpensive Cooler Master 500w PSU.) Thanks for any suggestions. If I have to splurge I want it to be on the video card I think but if I can get away with something like the 7950GT or the X1950XTX I will.

I'd spend a little more and get the GTX version. I'm running Oblivion at 1650x1050 MAX'd right now. It's very fluid, but I wouldn't say it's blazing fast either compared to some of the other games I play.

oh trust me I had the same exact problem, a GTS is better than a 7950 and X1950, you will be able to run it maxed out, if you had the money get a GTX which is faster than 2xX1950, I have loaded and unloaded my shopping cart for 2 weeks almost deciding on what to get, it can be nerve racking.
