I've been attempting to cut back on my expenses and am no longer going to be doing the fastfood/restaurant thing for lunch. I've loaded up on Tuna, Mayo, Relish and bread....very cheap stuff, but high in protein and I love the taste. Any other nutrious ways to save money but not comprimise your health or tastebuds?

I think currently lunch costs me about 2.00

$.75 x 2 for tuna, plus 50 cents for the cost of the other stuff...

Not healthy. Tuna has a lot of mercury. But if your objective is to look good and lose weight, than yes.

Replace snack food with fruits.

Eat a portion of vegetables with every meal. $5 worth of salad stuffs will give you a week's worth of side dishes.

Walmart

Brown rice
Baked Chicken
Lean beef (dietary cholesterol has minimal impact on LDL. Saturated fat has a huge impact, thus lean beef is good.)
Peanut Butter
Canned peanuts (the ones in the junk food isle)
whole grain bread

I don't eat canned and frozen goods, but you may want to look into that. By frozen goods I mean bulk frozen veggies and stuff, not microwave dinners and chicken tenders.

Yeah I think you're supposed to try and avoid tuna more than once a week. Make sure the mayo is lowfat or whatever, cause mayo is super unhealthy. The simplest way to eat cheaply and healthy is by eating chicken. Just grill your own chicken and make a salad and you have an inexpensive and healthy meal. Jesus, if you can't afford that it is kind of sad :p

Yea, if you want to get the health benefits of wild fish, I'd suggest molecullary distilled fish oil esters from young fish (older = more metals) that live in unpolluted water. But that doesn't go along with your budget.

Beans, bean, beans. They are full of protein, very inexpensive, low in calories, and very filling. Plus there are so many different kinds.

Careful with fruits tho. If he's new to them, he could go out and buy a whole bunch of them and have 60% of them spoil. Not exactly cost effective. But you've got to learn I guess.

If you're not getting enough protein, whey protein powder runs at like $10 at Walmart near the vitamins area. That's 30 servings of 20g of protein.

ya i do a couple protein shakes a day, i just work out a lot and have an issue with keeping weight on. the only way I have been able to increase my physical mass is by increasing my daily intake to 130grams+ a day.

Tuna Research

Mercury is bad for anyone, it is just worse for a pregnant lady because it affect the babies development. Mercury is toxic and builds up in your system. Mercury has been linked to an alarming amount infertility in both men and women. It inhibits your sperm production.

But like I said, if your objective is to lose weight or gain muscle and look good, then this diet is okay. I would suggest egg-whites, some canned tuna (since it is a cheap, quick way of getting protein), and skinless chicken for someone who wants to have a high protein diet. Add a lot of fiber (whole grain) and greens to your diet as well. But cheap way is to go egg-whites, stagger canned tuna, and vitamin & fiber supplements. Whey protein is good too, but you need to go to a nutritionist first.
