No such thing as a 'cheap' BR player.

Wait till next year. LG, Samsung and a few other companies will have combo players. Then the whole format war will be moot.

I think the HD-DVD players are half the price of that even. Might want to consider one of those instead.

(or get the x-box one for $199)

Go to www.TheDigitalBits.com and see how few HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs will be released in the next few months.

Then relax and wait until at least late January to decide what, if anything, to buy.

Meanwhile HD cable and their rental HD DVR is a good way to see HD programming while you wait for the studios to release more and the players (including PS3 if it's any good) to be shipping in decent quantities.

I was thinking seriously about getting an xbox360 with HD-DVD and/or a PS3 but right now I can only find 3-4 movies in each format that will be out by the end of January that I care about seeing in HD instead of just 480i upscaled.

Nothing to watch = a waste of money.

Seems $200 more than I would spend on this considering the Olevia 37 is $999

I believe the Olevia is not 1080p... does anyone know if olevia is still putting reflective glass panels on their LCD's?

The cheapest stand-alone HD player I know of know is the Toshiba HD-DVD player. Not Blu-Ray. And it is $500.

wait until next year imo. Roughly 90 titles available each format and you never know which one will 'win'.

I'm guessing blu-ray since their install base will be huge this time next year simply due to PS3
