Cheapest/best redundant external storage?

So, i've consolidated and I'm down to one computer now. I want to get some sort of external drive that I can use to backup all my data (photos, etc). I would like at least 500GB, but i want it to be redundant (RAID) so I'm guaranteed to never lose my data. I will eventually use this for my HTPC storage also, which is why USB is good.

I'd prefer something thats Network attached, but USB is ok. Really my question is should i go with something like WD Mybbook Mirror, or 2 regular USB drives and just back them up to each other?

I'm also trying to get something from dell b/c i have a gift card there, but am willing to go elsewehere for a good deal.

Any input?
