Looking to make a daily cup of cappuccino/latte-inspired coffee flavors (no foam). Must use pods/pucks/k-cups or whatever they are called, so long as it is a fully automatic one-touch deal. No separate foaming step and no adding of milk or sugar etc.

So Tassimos, Keurigs, Nespresso etc...

Biggest factor is the price of the pods/k-cups as in even just 1 year's time you've saved over $100 over buying at star-bucks, if not several hundreds in 1 year.

So I'd rather spend more on the device if it has cheaper pods / more variety of flavors. Yet no websites seem to incorporate this into the comparisons of the machines? :|

Anyone care to share recommendations or personal experiences with the systems they have tried?

Anyone know a good website that compares systems this way?

Thanks! :p

Why don't you just drink coffee?

Cappuccino is made with foamed milk. If you aren't foaming milk it's not a cappuccino.

Well, there's cappuccinos and lattes, or there are cappuccino-inspired coffee flavors.

I think he's looking for the latter - I hate to break it to him, I don't think the former exists. Not with pods.

You can have an all-in-one machine (though I think you still have to actually hold a pitcher under a steaming/frothing wand) - but they are hella expensive. It would take whole roasted beans and grind exactly what you need though, so actually a more cost-effective (cheaper daily cost - pods cost more than straight coffee beans unless you buy African shat-out-of-some-beast brand or premium Jamaican Blue Mountain (or other exotic single-sourced or premium blends), and really, just as easy.

btw: A more critical component of both cappuccinos and lattes: steamed milk. Simply frothed milk just doesn't do the job - it's gotta be steam-scalded, and then frothed some (equal thirds of espresso, steamed, frothed) for cappuccinos. ;)

It has to be one of the systems that involve: insert pod -> press 1 button -> enjoy.

So yes just like destrekor said, cappuccino/latte-inspired coffee flavors, but no foam.

Anyone know which "pods" systems is cheapest over the lifetime of like 5 years? Keurig's "k-cups"? Nestle's "pods" or Tassimo's? (or whatever they are all individually marketed as even though they are all the same idea.)

That's a good question. You should figure that out with a web search an let us know!

My desire for cheap coffee lead me to purchasing 2 pounds of Kirkland's medium roast at Costo. 40% less than what I was using before, but definitely not to my liking. I need to find a different source for roasted beans.

One of my favorite places is http://www.cafebritt.com/ It is not expensive, they ship free with an order of 6 bags or more, and the coffee is good. I toured the place years back, and they have a great facility. They do not roast your beans until you order them, so they show up at your door very fresh.

Less expensive yet, and I like the coffee, is World Market. Join the Explorer's club, and hit them up on the double point or whatever it is day (wednesday here) You will earn free coffee fast, and they give you coupons through email all the time. We pay less than $10 for the big bags. Then grab the Jamaican Blue Mountain as the free coffee. The savings and freebies accrue quickly if you have a couple of regular drinkers in the house. Just used a B-Day coupon and the free coffee rewards and got 5 regular sized bags for $3 out the door.

Probably not good enough for our douche nozzles 'round here, but they can, in the words of American Dad "suck it!".

OP: Sorry I have no help for you so consider this a bump.

Nespresso is by far the best system and there's a pretty cheap entry level machine.

Many Micheline level restaurants serve Nespresso for their espresso drinks because it's great quality and cheaper than getting a fancy espresso machine and keeping staff trained enough to make a better shot than nespresso.

With the profit margins on those pods, they ought to give the coffee makers away free like they do with razors.

I know some of those pod brewers can use refillable pods - wonder if anyone sells a bulk(!) bag of cappuccino or latte mix that could be used.

Doesn't all pre ground coffee lose some of it's caffeine kick? I just recently switched to a bulk coffee store and I get a kick like you wouldn't believe from the Kona blend. I have drank coffee for years in restaurants and never felt anything. It was a cheap, pleasant drink to accompany meals. Now I can't have more then 3 cups in morning before I start to Sing The Body Electric! No Starbucks, Tim Horton's or Dunkin Doughnuts have ever done this.
