Cheaper Vista?

Is there a list?
And are those versions limited?
Was going to India and want to buy a non-pirated version of Vista. Would Home Premium be available there for less than $150?
I saw the OEM version for Vista in Newegg for $120.
What's the deal with that and why is it so cheap compared to the regular versions?

OEM is cheaper for two main reasons (besides the fact that you don't get a nice box or manual):

a) The responsability of support falls upon the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer, like Dell or HP. If you build your own PC and then install an OEM copy then
you are OEM yourself), not Microsoft.

b) Your license is tied to the hardware (the motherboard) and cannot be transferred from one machine to another, like in retail, in which you are entitled of the license regardless of
where it's installed, and thus it can be transferred from one machine to another, provided that it's not installed on two machines at the same time.

As for Vista being cheaper in other countries...I don't know. AFAIK it's actually more expensive in most countries outside the US. In Mexico, where I live, Home Premium costs
about US$350, and Ultimate goes for nearly US$600. So there you have it.

I heard that anti-piracy measures in India and China made MS lower the price of Windows there...

Yeah, I wonder why Vista is so expensive down where I live because piracy is rampant here too, and the insanely high prices of Vista won't help at all. I don't know who MS expects to buy those overpriced retail boxes. Most people buy Dell or HP laptops and they of course an OEM license. And the rest, well, they'd just pirate it.

I don't pirate software but there's no way I'm paying $600US for Ultimate. I'll import it from the US as soon as I get the chance.

OEM version,at least in my case came in a DVD case with basic 40 page manual.

Microsoft provides Vista "Starter Edition" in some other countries. It is a cheaper version, but lacks Windows Aero, is 32-bit only, and according ot its license terms can only be installed on older processors.

As already stated, the OEM versions are cheaper in large part because they are non-transferable.
