So a fellow co worker has a dell N5010 / Inspiron 15. One day it just stop booting up. ie led comes on but nothing when you hit the power. I had to crack the whole thing open thinking the hdd was still good. Unfortunately the hdd does not even power up on a usb reader or through desktop power. So the whole laptop probably died from a surge.

Any recommendation on cheaper recovery ? I had used a flat rate 495 one from texas once and they got back everything but I lost their info.. if you guys ran into any flat rate recovery places lmk.. thanks..

A PCB swap and firmware transfer should cost you US$50 at most.

However, sometimes there is an easy, zero-cost DIY fix. Can you upload a photo of the component side of the PCB?

BTW, I'm assuming that the HDD makes no noise at all, however soft.
