I'm pretty sure you dont get a choice. Its not phone service. Theres no buttons to push so you can instantly have another line from someone else. They'd have to so some serious pipe work to change your supplier to another company.
Having said that, it seems most Virginians I meet cant stand the freaking cold. This winter I suspect they were using massive amounts of gas for central heating. So even though the gas company is selling more they still have an excuse to raise their rates.
Look at your rates last year this time. I'd bet they were lower.

what the fuck? you set your thermostat to 85F in the winter?!

i doubt a furnace could even pull that off here in canada during -40 outdoor temps. that's really fucking hot. your heating bill would be like 400 bucks

We dont have a choice of distributer. That's Washington Gas. They own the pipes to the house.

But there are lots of choices of suppliers. if you look at your gas bill, it's split with a supllier charge, and a distributer charge.

Sounds like you're using a lot of gas. How efficient is your system?

Replace it with a multi-fuel furnace/boiler, and use coal or wood at 1/4 of NG/oil cost.
