cheap video card with component-out.. 8400gs do the trick?

Hi all. I currently have a Geforce 6600 (non GT) and I wanted to output to my HDTV via component since the s-video was crap. My card didn't come with the famous dongle that allows TV-out to component. So I went and purchased a DVI-to-Component cable from monoprice and yesterday I spent a few hours trying to get it to work. It detected the TV but never allowed anything to display.. just a black screen.

so now I'm looking for another solution. I realize there's a special dongle floating around that uses the tv-out port on the 6600 and allows component out via that.

Which brings me to my two questions.

Would that dongle allow for great quality via component? Outputting at 1080i on my TV?

And otherwise.. what card should I buy? I don't game AT ALL. I only need the card to do a great job playing HD videos on the TV. Would the XFX 8400GS do this? I am unable to confirm if the 8400GS comes with the dongle with component-out.. can anyone confirm this? Would the quality of the component-out on a 8400GS be better/faster than on an old 6600 ?

I had better luck getting a VGA->Component adapter to work than a DVI->Component adapter.

Quality looked great on my HDTV while I was using it.

Of course, if you have a dual-DVI video card, that isn't going to help you any.

thx for the response... did you have to do anything special to get it working? your vga-to-component solution I mean ?

Did you make sure you set Windows to the native resolultion of your HDTV?

Of course I tried that man.. I spent 3 hours trying to make it work and I'd consider myself a pretty tech-saavy guy. I tried all HD resolutions with all sync settings. I also got Powerstrip and tried custom modelines. And I installed the latest nvidia driver for the 6xxx series.

Anyway that's not really my question at this point. I want to buy something which I know for sure will work. So anyone know if the 8400 GS comes with a component dongle?
