my friend wants to upgrade from a crappy dell supplied card to something...
he saw this deal for aGeForce FX 5200 for about $100...
its a 256 meg card...
i want to know if theres a better thing for him to get in that pricerange...
seems like there should be at least...
 
YES, ANYTHING.
9800 Pro > 9600 XT > 9600 Pro > GF4 Ti 4200 > 9600 > all other crap > FX 5200 > IEG2 > IEG.
For $100, a 9600 128MB or GF4 Ti 4200 128MB are still the best buys. For a little more, a 9600 Pro is good ($120-$130), too.

The FX 5200 with 256MB is like an ant with eyes as big as its head...it can serve no real purpose until you give it to the marketting folks.

Agreed. GF4TI200 (~$70) or 9600 (~$100)
