So that leaves us with: Motherboard, CPU, Ram, GFX card.

what will its main purpose be? will it be overclocked? you need to be more specific yourself to get answer specific to your needs 😉
 
It also leaves power supply. There's no guarentee that whatever he has now will be adequate for his new system.

Also, please indicate whether or not overclocking is an option.
