Allposters.com has a good selection but I can't justify spending $15+ a pop (I need around 10)... I'm looking for some nice posters of famouse art work - NOT limited addition prints or anything worth money, just posters.. I'm also looking for frames but that's less important right now.. Thanks!

P.S. Any suggestions for classic, tranquil paintings for a living room or dining room? I figure a few monet's would be nice..

i wanna give you my honest opinion here....

i would shop around at local flea markets, "starving artist" sales and craft shows and try to find cheap stuff instead of getting posters. Posters just arent that great and you can find really cool looking, classy stuff if you just shop around for a bit. alot of prints, painting, etc can be found at flea markets and craft shows for about the same price(if not cheaper) plus, they look way better, especailly if you can manage to get a great frame!

just my .02 :)

Thanks for the idea.. I'll do that but I have to admit to something a bit silly.. My parents are terribly uncultured so I'm trying to get some artwork by masters (van gogh, picasso, manet, MAYBE something more modern like jackson pollack) just to brighten up my apartment and expose them to great artist.. While I'm sure there's some brilliant work by struggling artists out there, I just want them to experience the classics first.. But I will take the weekend to go to a flea market or two - great idea!

P.S. I'm also really lazy - I alone had to paint my apartment, refinish the wood floors, and steam my carpets and I'm finally ready to buy some furniture and art work - I'd rather do everything on line cause I'm honestly dead tired!

Ah...i understand where youa re coming from now!

Here is anotehr great idea:
Go to borders or Barnes and Noble or any huge bookstore. Most of the time in their super cheap clearence section, they have big, i mean BIG books of art eitehr of one artist or several different styles/movements for a few buck (like 10-20$) Buy it...take it home and carefully cut our the pages and trim them, then get cool frames at kMart or Target (that are also on sale) and matte them yourself. That is what i would do. Also, you can go wrong getting some gret fameous Photographs as well by ansel adams, etc.
Main thing...just gotta find your fancy and go from there!

That is an insanely good idea - this way the pictures are all the same size too! Do you recommend any hanging pattern? Odd question, but I was thinking about hanging them in patterns - such as (o=small picture, O large picture):
o O o or like a cross hair (four paintings in a + pattern).. I know this sounds inane but you obviously know more about this stuff than I do.

depending on what kind of look you are going for ie, formal, modern, casual... you can hang them several ways. you could get all the same sized frames and matte them all the same way and then hang them in the patterns like you said or just scatter tehm in cool different frames. this would look really cool if you got all B&W photos and matted them all the same but used different old frames. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TRY DIFFERNT THINGS!!!! i like to arrange them in small clusters but not necessarily in a square or pattern...like kind of sporatically. some horizontal some vertical! PM me if you needmore help!

Also, what do you think is a good frame color for yellowish walls?

I love contrast so i would go for deep colored wood like cherry. or if you wanna go for subtle, try a light oak wood. if you want color, try a complimentary color like blue or violet! if you go wtiht he darker color, it will bring out the brightness in the paint!

One hint: try it on the floor first.
