Just read this article on CNN.com concerning a plan to give wireless access to the entire city of Philadelphia. The article mentions some other cities as well, including Cleveland's network of 4,000 transimitters with FREE access to anyone passing through the area. At the univeristy I work at, we opened up wireless access to the entire campus this year.
All I can say is that this is all great! I'm really curious what kinds of access speeds people are getting in these cities. I've been tempted to give in and purchase a T-mobile hotspot account, buy hell, if we're headed towards a free wireless society, why bother?
