Note that battery life is short for such a device. Commonly those flash based (removeable or fixed) MP3 players using an AAA battery will get 10 hours but these get closer to 6 hours. Sony makes one that gets a claimed 70 hours on an AAA battery!!! It's kinda pricey though and has fixed amount of memory.
I am just guessing, but the sound quality could be drastically lower. Same was true with their CDP line, where basically anything beyond '95 production is considered pretty much 'garbage' when it comes to sound quality, whereas their older stuff like D-25 is praised to death and get ebayed at ridiculous prices. I had a panasonic CT470 myself, a good compromise between SQ and portability/batter life. Pretty much a moot point since there are better sounding MP3 players out there, but just wanted to make a point that longer battery life usually comes with some hefty drawbacks.
Personally, Sony is kinda meh in a lot of things they do, some of their higher-end products are top notch (R10, 777ES), but most of their mass market mainstream stuff is quite craptastic. Gotta love trinitrons tho, got 2 and would gladly pick another one up if there is a good deal
