Cheap rounded IDE Cables...

I found some cheap 2 foot IDE rounded cables at the geeks for $2.49. Compared to other prices I've seen this seems like an awesome deal. But I'm a bit weary of the quality. What do you guys think? Other cables I've seen cost three times that and are barely half that length.

Good deal. But they were out of stock. Would a been nice if it was in stock, I could have bought a seringe of artic sliver with it. The other cables priced at $2.79 look the same as the one at the comp geeks.

Both actually. They help to unclutter your case giving way for better airflow most times. In my case, I have an Abit IS7 which has a pretty horrible layout. The ATX power plug is right next to the ram and above the floppy connector and the ide connectors at way at the bottom. The thick ATX power cable gets in the way of my DIMM slots and also makes a huge cluttering of cables (between the ATX plug and the two ide ribbon cables traveling through) where my two hard drives are. So that'll definantly clear the way for my hard drives. Its also asthetics, it looks way more professional and organized. And depending on your prefference you can get those flamboyant glow in the dark raver rounded cables for the casemoders deep inside of us all.
 
If you've got a little money to burn try out Antec's Cables, the shielding and grounding wire actually moderatly does help transfer speeds.
 
They theoreticlly help airflow, but only marginally in most cases. The main attractions are the colors and the lack of clutter when you're trying to work inside the case.
 
So nobody noticed much of a temp decrease from the change over? My case doesn't have a window so the only use I'd have for them is temperatures.

depends on what case layout you have. I have an antex 1030 case. In the front there is a fan bracket for blowing over your hard drives. With standard IDE ribbons the fan was useless. Now, however, with my rounded cables the cooling is noticable. This probably won't help with cpu temps, unless you have ide cables wrapped around your hsf 😛 I got mine for the looks and then the extra cooling was a plus... picked up mine at svc on sale a while back, good stuff.

 
I got them for less clutter, and the manuverability. They are easier to position than normal ide cables for long runs. In terms of airflow, I think that folding regular ide cables actually is better than rounded cables. It all depends on the layout of your case though, in terms of where you position drives and such. I think rounded cables give you a bit more flexibility, and look cooler.
