Cheap resort vacations where you have to attend a sales pitch

On several occasions I get these offers in the mail where you can stay at what seems to be a very nice resort for fairly cheap. The catch is that they are trying to sell you a time-share or something there, so it requires you to attend a 90-minute tour/sales pitch while you are there. Seems like a small inconvenience for the great deal they offer. But wondering if anyone actually went to one? Is it worth it or are you harassed non-stop the entire time you are there? Are there things you can't do because you aren't a real member?

We just got one the other day where its $149 for a 5 day, 4 night stay at a pretty fancy sounding resort. That works out to about $38/night, which is cheaper than staying in a local roach-motel. This one is a Sheraton, so its not some no-name shady establishment. We've been talking about going to vacation in this area anyways. Sounds too good to be true. Am I asking for trouble?

it's not really worth the hassle, they bother you nonstop unless you sign up for a timeshare. like the poster above said, leave your credit cards checks IN YOUR ROOM

Instead of leaving your credit cards and checks in your room...

How about you bring your self control and the ability to tell them "No" with you wherever you go?

I've never done one to stay at a resort, but I've done a few to get other things (amusement part tickets, plane tickets, etc) and to be perfectly honest, my time is worth way too much to put up with that crap when I'm on vacation.

I've done one of those - it was pretty harmless. Just look interested (which I was during the shpiel), and then in the end say thanks for the tour, we (husband and I) need to talk about it. They will come back with a better offer or more free stuff if you sign now, after which just say we don't make decisions right away without sleeping on it first, thank them again, and go off on your merry way enjoying the rest of your vacation. The Sheraton should be nice - my parents got one for the Ritz in California - they said it was nice and the offer was tempting, but after weighing all the options it wasn't worth it.

Yes, we've had two vacations to Las Vegas for free including

roundtrip airfare
hotel accomodations
some coupons

We had to pay about $80 in taxes/fees but not bad for 2 nights/3 days in Vegas.
