. I see that you've learned the hard way that Lexmark (and the other Ink Jet printer mfrs, only Lexmark more so) uses the razor and blade theory of marketing. Lex. has the highest per page cost of the I J printers and they almost give away the printers themselves.
I was using the Universal Ink Jet refills that you can buy at many big box stores like CompUSA. They work fine but I thought they were still too expensive as you only get 25ml of each color in the 3-color kit that sells for $25., and 75 ml in the black kit at $19 - you need one of each kit.
Here is an inexpensive place that I just bought from:
Ink Refills . You can get a starter kit with 4x2 oz (60 ml) bottles, syringes and specific instructions for $19.+S/H (They take PayPal as well as other pmt. methods). So far, so good. I've used their yellow, black and red and printing looks fine. After the starter kit, you can buy individual 2, 4 or 32 oz bottles of ink as refills to save yet more.
. Here is another whose ink is supposed to be color fast
More Ink .
. Remember, the print head is built into the Lexmark cartridges - do not let any color run totally dry before refilling as that may shorten the life of the head. You can usually get 5-10 refills out of your print head (one or more nozzles will burn out and you will start getting white streaks in your printouts that can't be fixed by cleaning). Use the tick method (||||, etc) to keep track of how many refills and get a new Lexmark cart. soon after the 5th refill so you'll have it on hand when the current head goes bad.
