No overclocking, don't need high-performance RAM or anything. Just cheap and stable.

I was gonna go for this for $65 but I don't want to deal with possible instability since it's 1.65v and apparently SB wants 1.5v.

Any suggestions?

In theory any RAM will be reliable, and if not will still have a warranty. I'd say just get something no higher than 1.5v.

Not sure what the price was when you posted but right now they're basically the same price as of this moment. Also, this one is only 1066 in case he wants 1333.

The Crucial is fine. I was actually considering it because my HSF gets in the way of the 2 closest memory slots if the ram has tall heatspreaders. I'm not even sure why they have them. Memory doesn't really need these giant things.

I ended up getting some Shellshocker for some DDR3 1333. 8GB for 55 if you make it tedious a week ago. I probably could/should have waited for 1600 but I don't overclock anymore. I'm sure it'll come up against eventually but if you need something now, that set will work fine.

^ I missed the fine print.

Then again OP mentioned that he doesn't need a performance RAM and overclocking is not what he wants. If it is according to what was posted then it doesn't make much difference in terms of performance going from DDR3-1066 to DDR3-1333. If OP wants the DDR3-1333 then he could get the one mentioned by JBDan.

Hey, it seems like this kit has good reviews and is cheap. Someone mentions compatibility with Sandy Bridge too. Whaddya think?

Think I might get it...

Not a good price. Could easily get memory with those specs w/ heatspreaders for under $70. Sign up for newegg's newsletter if you haven't already so you can take advantage of sales and see shellshocker deals.

The only cheaper ones I'm seeing on Newegg are G.SKILL Value Series or Team Elite 8GB , both $2 cheaper. Meaning, 1333mhz 1.5v 8GB kits. Wouldn't get the Team Elite, but maybe the G.SKILL. Gonna be pulling the trigger on all my components in the next few days, so I probably wouldn't wait for a sale...

That's the problem with time deadlines. You won't always get the best price. A week ago, they were 30% cheaper. Maybe 2 weeks in the future, they'll be 25% cheaper but if he needs something in the next couple of days, then the current price is basically market price. It depends how long you're willing to wait to save a few bucks here because the price will eventually drop again.

As far as brands go, I've had good experiences with Crucial, Gskill and Kingston. I think most of the major brands are about the same, so just pick something you feel comfortable with.

Well he wanted cheap which easy to do with memory since deals are frequent and with lifetime limited warranties on practically everything it's usually safe to buy in advance. Course, this doesn't apply to mobo's and CPU's, especially CPU's as prices rarely change much.
