cheap RAM and dual athlons (when available)

Do you guys think the cheap RAM from pricewacth vendors will work in the dual athlon boards? One of the things pushing me towards the Tbird instead of Dual PIII's is the price of RAM. I have generic in my system now and it has never messed up *knock on wood*. I am going to fill my DIMMS with 256 MB chips and hopefully those will be useable in the new Dual motherboards. Any ideas?

If you look at pricewatch, most vendors say that the 256 MB chips will ONLY work in Athlon boards for some reason.... dunno why....

The memory will work fine with Athlons.

But unless the Via KT133A is SMP capable you'll have trouble finding a Dual processor Athlon board to take SDRAM.

The AMD760-MP is the only SMP capable athlon chipset I've heard of so far and it's DDR-SDRAM only.

Maybe the Via KT266 or ALi magik1 will be able to use DDR or regular...but I don't think either of them are SMP capable..

Hey,

I run a duron 700 at 1150 mhz with 192 megs of 3 different types of generic ram. it runs beautifully for weeks at a time. I know for a fact that my abit KT7-RAID has absolutely no problems with cheapo ram.
