Cheap Raid PCI Card

I see a whole bunch of cheap raid cards using the silicon image chipset and was wondering if theres much of a preformance difference compared to the promise and highpoint chipsets.
 
I've installed the Koutech in a few Machines and didn't notice any Real time difference although the Benches may show different.
 
I tried to install a EIO AP1618 (or something like that) ATA133 raid card....didn't get that far because I was having other hard drive troubles....was only trying to use it as a IDE card though....seems well built and installed OK....not much help I know...but anyway.
