Newegg.com has had the Retail-box Premium Edition for about $950 (5 CALS). I've heard of people getting addtional CALs for as little as $60 each. I think Newegg is at $80 each or so. You'll need five additional CALS.

For most small businesses, User CALS make the most sense. That allows a single user to access the SBS Server from multiple computers, locations, PDAs, SmartPhones, etc. Device CALs would only make sense if you have a lot of employees sharing the same computers (multiple shift operations). You can also mix-and-match CALS, but it can get complicated. And since you have to buy five CALS at a time, minimum, you don't really have much flexibility with only ten licenses.

Understand that SBS doesn't actually know what kind of CALS you are using. It's up to you to purchase the best ones for your needs and to keep track of them to ensure licensing compliance. YOU choose whether you want to use the initial 5-CAL licenses as User or Device CALS. Then you purchase your additional CALS (of the appropriate type) and input their Key number into the Licensing Wizard.

Unlike many things, licensing for Windows Servers is MORE complicated than it seems. The good news (or bad news) is that neither SBS 2003 nor Windows Server 2003 really enforce the licensing. To some extent, it's up to you to enforce and monitor licensing compliance.

The other thing to remember is that, although Server licensing may seem costly, that SBS license, which provides tons of services to your office, costs less than $20 per employee per year, considering that the average Server runs for 4-5 years. $20 is about what it costs to take the employee to lunch once a year.
