AKA Whoozyerdaddy call out thread :awe:

We're trying to plan a trip to Maui in late January, from 1/20 to 2/3. We're planning to stay at the Sheraton for 6 days, but then we want to see and stay on other parts of the island.
We are kind of on a budget though, i'm booking the Sheraton through award points, but dont have enough for the whole time and wouldn't mind staying at some b&b/hostel type places. any of you guys have any recommendations for vacation rentals or anything like that we could potentially stay at? Also, any other recommendations for us to see/do? We're up to do almost anything on the island from hiking, kayaking, snorkeling to just hanging out on the beach. Lodging is always the most expensive and annoying part of planning a vacation (besides flights), and is either gonna make this trip happen or be a bust!

drive the road to hana and hike the 2 miles up the mountain to see the 400ft waterfall. i think that was the favorite part of my trip when i went there. i literally felt like i was in LOST when doing that hike, it owned so hard.

the whole trip to hana was awesome, stopping at the black sand beach and other neat things. strongly recommend it.

another really cool thing was seeing the sun rise from the peak of the one mountain, where you are above the clouds. but if you do this be warned it is fucking FREEZING up there.

molokini crater is really freaking awesome to snorkel in, and i've heard it is cool to dive around the outer edge of it too. it is the clearest water i've ever snorkelled in though.

i'm jealous of your trip, although i'm going to bahamas in december. if you dont mind me asking, how much was your flights from PA to maui? i'm in MD and have 3 airports around me, but flights to maui are like $1k/person last time i checked.

Whoozyerdaddy might be banned. He hangs out at a place that's filtered here (for reasons that I don't understand).

Send me a pm if you want the url.

Does cheap and Hawaii even exist?

No it doesn't, and those two words should never been in the same sentence.

OP if you want to go cheap stay on the mainland. If you head down to Wailea, there's nothing cheap at all (not even the condos are that cheap).

<---- has a condo in Maui.

LULZ at the idea of spending several hundred dollars to fly to Maui.. to stay in a hostel. That's the funniest shit I've ever heard.

hey, we gotta cut corners somewhere :-D, we've saved up for our honeymoon in the fall! this is our winter getaway. we already got 6 days at the sheraton near black rock. we would need to find places to stay for another 5/6 days. It seems like driving to hana is a day long event, and i probably wouldn't want to drive back to the west side of maui after driving there.

I thought some type of B&B or place to crash over on the hana side would be nice, and it would give us time to explore that side more than being rushed. are the general areas to stay in maui the left side (black rock, where all the big hotels seem to be), kihei/wailea, and hana?

I just got back from Maui, and I have to agree with RbSX, cheap and Maui shouldn't be in the same sentence.
