I currently have an old NLX Pentium 2-400 system, with 320MB PC100 SDRAM and new Seagate 7200rpm 8mb cache 160 GB hard drive. It's falling apart, missing front panel, missing drive enclosure, etc. So I'm looking to transplant it to a new case. I've bought an Antec Sonata, plus an NEC dvd burner, and I'd like to move it over.

Obviously NLX is no use, but I don't want to spend much money (maybe 30 GBP)..... The system isn't really used - I use my P4 laptop, which connects via 802.11g - except for occasional very light web browsing. I want to keep my RAM, obviously I'll need a new motherboard, either MicroATX or ATX. The system will continue to act as 802.11g and internet connection sharing point, it also might do occasional DVD burning, so I guess I'll want at least ATA 66 ....

Anyone want to suggest a dirt-cheap motherboard + CPU combination that will allow me to put my components in my shiny new Sonata case?

If you were in the US, you could get a used Slot-1 board for just the shipping in the FS/FT forum.

Since you're in England your best choices are:
1. a "WTB (UK)" post in FS/FT forum, asking for bare slot-1, or a mobo/cpu combo with p2, p3, celeron. duron, or athlon for cheap.

2. Buying new, a Sempron CPU, cheap socket-A motherboard, and 256 or 512 MB of DDR RAM -- costs $130-160 USD here in the States.
