Cheap Partial System Options

Earwax

Senior member
I have $350 to spend. I need to purchase the following components:

Mobo
CPU
RAM
Hard Drive
Video Card

I have a case, PS, Monitor, Speakers and the other periperals. I've been asked to build a system primarily for web surfing, but also one that can be used for LAN gaming (Empire Earth/BF 1942). I was thinking of an Athlon XP 2700+ and maybe an nForce 2 mobo. The buyer wants the system to last for awhile too. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hmm...
Sempron 3100+-100$
VNF3250-70$
512mb PC3200 Value Select 512mb-70$
(note that you would want faster RAM for overclocking, such as the Patriot higher-latency DDR500 512mb sticks @ 90$)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro-180$
80GB Western Digital hard drive-60$
Total: 480$.
This is a bit more than your budget, but your computer is'nt likely to last too long with a 2700+. Spend the extra 90$, and you get a pretty darn decent gaming box.
