just something really cheap. I realized it would be nice to retain use of my PC if I want to sell current video card to the right buyer.

I would like to stick with AMD to support them and because I don't want to swap between Nvidia + AMD drivers back and forth.

What is cheap? Under $200, under $150, or are we talking about under $100?

If you don't game much, almost any card can handle 1440.

cheapest thing i can find would be a 5450
there are some 512mb variants on ebay for <$20

it'd cost too much for me to ship my old 5770, since it's too big for a flat rate box :(

Yeah was a bit misleading before title wise. Anyhow, personally I might try and find a GTX 285, they go on eBay in the 20-25$ realm now and then, but of course its an nVidia card. ATI-wise Id expand the budget juuuust a tad and keep an eye out for an HD 5750. Can be found on the cheap but not quite $20.

A 5450 is just so low end though. I bought a 4850 3 years ago for $35. I can imagine they would be at least $10 less nowadays? Or a HD5650? Or a 5570? Or a 4770? All of those are significantly faster than a 5450 for marginally more cost.
