You don't have to tell me that. I was a star in this endevour in the IBM PS/2 days.

I wrote the FAQ http://ps2page.tripod.com/ps2faq.txt

Never diss heartfelt praise. I enjoyed posting what I did. Take props.

And, if you can't get a good deal on 17 copies of Office from MS, I think that sucks.

Hold on....I just found this from 08!!!!! Fewer than 50 is what MS considers small business, so if still in place, this would apply!

Just read about the deal above....OMG, talk about greedy and smoke and mirrors. U gotta get married to these 'partners" you purchase Office from at an ostensible bargain price.

It's going to be the OP's 2010 desire.

Office is cheap on subscription IMHO.

I'd assume that $12ish figure is about one hour of pay for most of the staff each month...

Interesting way to look at it.....BUT, to me, still a scam. Check this out re Office 2010 which I now run, I see no reason at all to upgrade to later; look at the prices to own below! Total much lower than the subscription prices even for one year!

And, NOT TIME SENSITIVE. I like owning both an OS or Office until they either stop supporting it, it becomes vulnerable or I decide to upgrade. That is how it works with me. May work differently with others.
To me, the reasonable, fair thing for MS to do would be to offer, say, a license for 15-20 computers at a discount. To OWN.

Dealers used to be able to buy (maybe they still can) a given OS via discounted group license for mass installation. Big ebay vendors employ that when they sell good, previously owned systems.

I see no reason at all they shouldn't do the same thing with Office for small businesses. But I am sure the bean counters at MS see many. What they fail to see is the good will that would generate in small enterprise long term. They fail to see the bean FIELD in perspective. So lame.

Eh, it is what it is. I won't condemn Microsoft for trying to maximize income any more than I'd blame myself for going elsewhere when MS doesn't give me the price I want. I mean, that'd be almost as stupid as assuming the company's paying 12/hr because we don't flush money...

Looks like I'm in the process of scoring a bunch of 2013 Pro Plus licenses for around 60 a pop from a guy in FSFT. Saved over $1000 for the price of a couple forum posts over the weekend.

Hey alky, if you need to throw more money away to impress people, hit me up. I can make a website for you to show off how much money you send me and then you can put the link in your sig. I'd offer to build the site for free with a starting payment of at least 10k, but of course discounts are for poor people.

The website will be a much better status symbol than just paying full price for Office licenses. I mean, nobody but MS would even know we paid full price...

Cept what it IS, is a monopoly precluding competition. And that is one of their modus vivendis. Whole history of MS involves spending veritable fortunes ongoing to fight anti trust suits worldwide. Once is a while, they loose. for them, it's just cost of doing business.

The monopoly sucks, but that's what modern business does. Believe me, I'm no fan of our neoliberalism/crony capitalism, but I see MS as more a symptom than a cause. Sure they spend money, and sure it's gotten easier without the corporate charter and with money equaling free speech, but the way to fix it is to change politics. I'd love to see MS grow a sense of ethics, but that's even less likely than fixing our political problems. 🙂

Good on you!!!!!! Bravo!
/sunglasses 😉

Besides, as nasty monopolies go, MS is a tadpole. Military, prison, energy, entertainment, and probably even internet service provider industries do way the hell more damage and a lot of those aren't even monopolies.

I generally class MS, Apple, Amazon, Google, etc as 'dick move' companies rather than toxic companies. They're asshats to their competitors, but they're not a pox on all our houses like, say, the prison industry. And regardless of dodgy biz practices, at least they're creating some value for their presence.

Can't call an entity which determined to kill competition to hold most of the world hostage, given most of the world runs Windows.... a tadpole. I think it's a giant, mutant frog.

QFT M$ is hardly a tadpole.

I would question what the poster deems real frogs.

As I just posted, I agree. MS is a GIANT, ravenous MUTANT FROG!!!!!!:|

I used to have adorable frog on my lappy desktop. NOT GIANT AND MUTANT. Here is one (I had two), not at all like MS!!!!!!
