there was one that I did for one month...ran out of $$$ but it was a great service $20/month 6 logins at 2mbit per line. Unlimited downloads.

It always had me maxed out at 600-800KB/s (that's not kbps)

B for byte, b for bit. 800KB == 6400Kb == 6.4Mb; and 800Kbps is 0.8Mb/s.

Regarding the topic, most ISP's provide free usenet access. If you have cable they almost certainly do, and most of the big players in DSL provide the same. Check with them if you havent already.

Astraweb has some decent pricing... $10/mo for unlimited d/l, but speeds are capped... they also offer a flat rate 25GB for $10, with uncapped speed. Their retention was only 3 days when I looked into it a month ago but supposedly it's up to 11 days now... I'm happy with Easynews so I have no reason to switch, but it's worth a look...

I use newsfeeds.com, $19.95/mo. May not be the cheapest, but 750mb/per day per server is pretty good. Plus they have -east and -west for each type of server (multimedia, images, etc.) as well as anonymous posting capabilities.
