Cheap new motherboard - boots 2500+ Barton at 600 MHz

I bought a cheap Foxconn motherboard to fix my computer for a few weeks/months until I upgrade. However, it's booting my 2500+ at 600 MHz and I can't find anywhere to change it in the BIOS. Anyone had similar issues? From the reviews on newegg, it looks like some people are running Bartons fine, so I don't know why I'm having an issue.

I'm not sure that's going to help.. I have nowhere to actually change the multiplier or FSB in the BIOS.
 
on athlons, there are only so many multipliers available. They ran from 5.5 to 12.5
Your mobile barton is 13.5 multi (I think), but they had to reuse multis. So the 13.5 multi is a re-mapped 6.
After the pin trick, it will remap your multi back to 13.5 and you only need to find out how to raise the fsb to 133 to get back to stock.
It doesn't matter if you don't have any way to change multi in BIOS. You just use 13.5
 
Make sure the wire is long enough without being too long. Should stick down into hole about as far as CPU pins go in. Bummer if you can't get it to work. I can't imagine foxconn releasing a BIOS that supports mobile CPUs.
 
I've seen this on several occasions. If you had a standard non mobile barton ou'd obviously be good to go but with the mobile there are certain boards that simply don't support mobiles no way no how. I tangled with a cheap Asrock that put me in the same boat. I ended up going out and getting a cheap sempron to run in it unfortunately you'b e be hard pressed to pick up a Socket A sempy at this point. I tryed a few different things with the Asrock to no avail ie socket mods to no avail.
 
Mainboards whose BIOS doesn't contain anything for the "mobile" breed of processors won't even try to switch multipliers. Hence, the chip stays at its powerup default, which is "slowest possible".

You either need to do your homework before buying a mainboard, or use a 3rd party utility that switches it up after the fact, from within the OS.
 
Does such a utility actually exist peter? I mena there are utilitites out there where you can tweak FSB mem tings etc but are you sure theres one that manipulates the chips multiplier?
