Anyone know of a cheap, $30 - $50, mp3 player, besides the nano, that gets excellent FM radio reception? I want the radio to play through the earbuds, not to a receiver.

If I buy an ipod Touch, could a software/firmware update give me FM radio?

Thanks

That's pretty vague - what's cheap? What sort of capacity are you looking at? I like the sound quality on Sony mp3 players (they almost all have FM radio), but the zune eco-system is awesome, so I'd recommend a flash based zune.

It isn't.
A friend wants the nano for FM reception, he also wants the ipod Touch. I think it's a waste of money to buy the nano for 150.
So i figured if all he wants at certain times is the FM radio, an mp3 player for about $40, should be good enough. But it needs to have excellent reception, which I've read the nano has.
And when he wants to listen to his songs or videos he can use the Touch.

I've never had any that had excellent FM quality. I have a Sansa e200 and it gets the job done; it goes for $40 new on ebay.

If he afford a Touch, he might as well get a Zune HD for the HD radio reception. I think a lot of FM stations have gone HD by now.

I also love my Sansa Clips. They are cheap, perfect for exercise, and have excellent sound quality.

just tried out the FM radio on a sansa the other day... great reception, sounded fabulous, able to record, but only to .wav. liked it so much i picked up an e270 off newegg yesterday. Lots of e2xx series on ebay in your price range.

Plus they support rockbox, which adds support for any size micro sd card. You could grab a 16 gb micro sd card and have a fairly high capacity player on the cheap.
