Cheap Motherboard/CPU combos back in stock at outpost

each have their own manf. warranty, except for the oem procs that are included in some (few) deals. those have the 30 days fry's warranty and nothing more i believe. otherwise they will be retail cpus with retail fans and retail warranties (3 years for amd).

pretty good. It is like getting a free mobo. The 2400+ combo price is less than what newegg charges for the 2400+ alone.

Looks like all are Sempron based combos though. Good part is they are also "retail boxed" CPU's, which means 3 year warranty. All in all, good for building inexpensive, lower end systems. Nice.

That purple PCB you see on the motherboards almost certainly means it's ECS. Those things are lucky to last 6 months.

Not quite fair datwater; there are lots of people right here on the forums who have bought and been happy with ECS. I myself wouldn't, but you check enough sigs you'll see what i mean...

The 2400 is a good deal, especially since they are retail.

I have to say though I stay away from ECS myself after I had to return two for not booting.

I've built many k7s5a systems about 4 years ago.. they are all still running strong.

All Fry's and outpost OEM CPUs have a 1 year warranty.

Starting to veer off-topic ... since K7S5As have been brought up...

Now that the K7S5A is out of production, what's the new low-end mobo to buy? I've probably built a dozen K7S5A based systems for myself, friends and family, and one or two of them are starting to show quirks -- restarts for no reason, hangs, that sort of thing. Figuring that I'm going to be called upon for after the build support, and I know when the mobo starts to act up, it's probably time to throw it away, I haven't really found anything which compares price and performance wise to the K7S5A.

Thoughts are appreciated ...

Ok - perhaps unfair to say that an ECS board is lucky to last 6 months. I can say without reservation that the board our shop sees dead most often is ECS - hands down. They come in alot of E-machines, Compaqs, and V2-Premiers that are sold on late night TV. I have not seen as many of a single brand board failed as ECS since the MSI KT133 series.

I built 3 computers using the k7s5a and all 3 are still running today. Although one of them is now running an asus MB. One went bad about 7 months after build. They seem alright although I won't be using them anymore.

Well unless a killer deal creeps up. I am a sucker for a killer deal. 😉

I have 4 ECS machines, 2 K7S5As, 1 KT7VTA3 and and ECS P4 something that I can't remember (it's my father-in law's). All are 2 to 4+ years old. all are used daily and except for one of the K7's losing it's BIOs settings once every 6 months (just have to reset it), all are working just fine. In the same time period I had an ABIT NV7M and some SOYO POS bite the dust.
