Hi,
I want to buy a new Monitor.
I'm gonna use mainly for gaming beside watching anime & web browsing.
I'm not a hardcore gamer though.
Currently I have Intel E2180+4GB DDR2 800MHz RAM+AMD HD5670 DDR5 512MB.
But,I'm planning to upgrade to Intel Core i3+GTX560/650+4GB DDR3 RAM soon.
Sadly very few option are available under my budget and not all model/brand available here.
I only found following:

1.LG IPS225V 5ms 21.5" Rs.9000/-
2.AOC i2251Fwe 14ms 21.5" Rs.8000/-
3.Philips 227EQPH 7ms 21.5" Rs.8500/-

Thanks!

I don't have any recommendations, but I'd like to point out that you can't really trust ANY of the specs on a monitor. Contrast, response time, colors, etc., don't have a standard so one manufacturer's 1000:1 contrast may in fact be worse than another's 600:1.

I can only suggest you find all of the monitors available within your price range and read reviews on them.

Sadly even reviews are worthless, because I bought a 5 star rated Asus VE228H 1080p monitor, which has all these "Customers Choice" awards and stuff

and it turns out its a really poor TN 6-bit with dithering panel with *really obvious* artifacts especially during gameplay and video...

Monitors are a tough purchase no doubt I'd recommend looking at the HP 2311XI it's a 6 bit e-IPS I don't own one but there around 180$ from futureshop in Canada right now.

Do some research and make sure the panel you're getting is definitely an 8bit colour, IPS panel, and not 6bit with 2bit dithering, you might have to dig through manufacturers specs to find out for sure.

I think the cheapest panels for IPS right now are the catleap ones, they're really cheap i'd read up on them first before buying/importing though since I don't personally know much about them, there's a thread on anandtech somewhere if you search for catleap.

Sorry, but Catleap or HP not available in my country.
Only few selected models of Samsung,LG,AOC,BenQ,Philips,Dell,Asus available here.
Dell U2312HM is Rs.15000/- is beyond my budget and Asus IPS 23" is Rs.20000/- totally overpriced.
I can spend max 10000/-.
Even AOC i2353PH 23" is Rs.12000/-.
So,I have to chose from the above 3 models or have to wait for price fall.

thats probably it right there

I had the VE228H which is their cheapest 1080p pretty much, got it for 136.99 + tax at amazon.

I'm going to try their VH236H or more commonly known as the "Evo" monitor next, hopefully that will give better results

Got some spec detail from official web.
1.LG IPS236V(5ms,S-IPS,DVI+HDMI+VGA)
2.AOC i2353PH(5ms,e-IPS,2xHDMI+VGA)
3.AOC i2251FWe(14ms,e-IPS,VGA+DVI)

But,review at tomshardware showing up to 40ms response time for LG IPS236V.
Anandtech showing 15ms lag for i2353PH.
Could not find for AOC i2251FWe model.

So,who telling the truth ?
I can't decide an IPS monitor for gaming.

Dell just released some real nice new IPS monitors that are fairly cheap. I haven't seen any in person and have not seen any reviews though.

I'd recommend the Hanns-g 281z, It costs about £200 ($260) and is 28 inch, great for gaming with fast response time and great for films/video as it's BIG. They do get hot so needs a well ventilated space but for the price and performance its very hard to beat.

I think I have to wait a little then cos Dell gonna take some time to launch new monitors here.

Sorry to say IPS blows for Gaming FPS games first person shooters. Why you ask ?

Most IPS are avg 8ms latency. Laggy mouse in other words. Not instant and smooth like 1ms.

IPS range from 5ms to 12ms. The 5ms is a 1k or 2k tv.

Your lucky if yours is 7 or 8ms. Sorry but not a good solution for FPS.

But if you RTS and RPG then the latency lag wont matter much it will play smooth.

But if you want those quick turns in FPS your going to get blur and ghosting.

Heh that's why you turn off vsync to fix the input lag

I consider myself pretty damn picky in this realm. Up until about 2 months ago I was using a Sony FW900 CRT for these reasons. I picked up a Catleap Q270 2B. I'm really not feeling the input lag, plus the 100hz+ refresh rate is legit.

May be price could drop after launch of S series monitors her.

Dell ultrasharps are good for gaming. Ghosting and such is mostly a thing of the past.

There are also Asus IPS panels such as VS239H-P which should be fine.

Can anyone tell me how good is Dell S2240M for gaming ?
Its available @Rs.9000/- in my country currently.
Dell S2340M may be a little more.
AOC i2267Fwh and i2367Fh will be available end of this year.
AOC i2267Fwh may be abialble under Rs.8000/- then.
But,both AOC have 14ms(GTG) Response Time.
And Dell S2240M have 7md(don't know GTG).
So,I'm kinda confused and sadly my budget not big too.

4:3 is pretty awful as far as a aspect ratio goes, not to long ago i had the same size and resolution, got desperate and picked up a $30 1440x900 monitor in the same size to hold me over for a bit and widescreen makes a huge difference.

What i ended up doing is just saving enough money and i set myself a a $350 monitor budget and i ended up purchasing the u2412m,it is way better then anything i have ever used, even better then the $500 fhd2400 24'' gateway 16:10 i got in 2008.

Idk if your in the us,but i found the $310 for the u2412m being well worth it,even my non techie friends who use my pc to game notice how much sharper and vibrant the colors and the picture is....
