My old 3000+ xp 64 is getting old and slow with my radeon 9800 pro card!! I really cant stand it any longer, but now i hear about the x38!! Is there a cheap mobo i could use jfor now till the x38 start rolling out because mine is so slow and sucks so bad now haha.

This is the stuff I want to buy for my new computer.

Antec 900 (already bought)
E7520 c2d
A x38 mobo
2 gigs of ddr2 800mhz ram (any recommondations?)
500 WD sata 7200 harddrive
EVGA 320-P2-N817-AR GEFORCE 8800 GTS KO 320MB DDR3 w/ ACS3 (or should i just get a regular one)
and I plan to spend about 175-200 for the power supply, but havent decided which.
Thermalright-Ultima 90

I dont play games in high res cause I just have a 19" wide screen at 1400*900.
Thanks for the help!

Abit IP35-E for $70 AR at MWAVE. See my review in MB forum.

If you have extra $, then go with Kingston DDR2 800 "N5 OEM"

If you're on a budget, then get an E4x00 and those 1GB DDR2 667 HP sticks at the Hot Deals forum. Unit cost is $20 AR. These should hit 400MHz with 2.0Vdimm and 5-5-5-15-2T. Save your $ for Peryn next year. The next generation MB isn't that big of a deal. Any C2D CPU @ 3.0GHz or better will be plenty fast for at least another year.

I don't think I worded this question right. I'm not on a budget, but I don't upgrade very often cause I am a college student(last year) and will be going to law school. I have a summer job and I am building this computer to last me at least 2 years with upgrades like every 6 months.
If I don't spend this money now, I will spend it on random college life stuff so waiting isn't really an option.

So what I meant to say is, I want the X38 because it seems like a mobo that will last me for a very long while with pci 2.0 and other goodies(if I am right).

My question is all the parts I listed, Is there a cheap mobo for say like 25-50 bucks that will WORK with these parts until a nice x38 comes out that I will keep for a long time. These are the parts.

If you want to get the most mileage from your build, then wait next year to engage Peryn. Otherwise, go with the overclocked E4x00 CPU. There's very little performance gain with 7520, even if you could get that chip up above 3.6GHz on air.

Wait one year to upgrade the CPU to Peryn. That should give you a nice boost in speed. We're not even close to saturating the current PCI-E pipe. Noobs buy-in on marketing hypes. Do you want to be a BETA tester for the latest chipset? To get the most performance out of the new chipset, you'll need to fork over more $ for the latest CPU.

Buy only what you need today, then build a new PC when the current rig cannot meet your needs. If you want a $25 MB, then search Fleabay for ECS specials.

As for the PSU, go to the PSU forum to get smart. A quality PSU costs about $40 AR (Antec Earthwatts 500).
