I'm interested in getting an oxygen tank. Its doesnt have to be high capacity, heck it doesnt even need to have an efficient system to breathe from it. I'd just like to have one that can deliver a minimum of ~5 minutes of breathable oxygen per charge, though preferably more per refill.

*I'm not going to try and take this scuba diving or anything like that.

You can get disposable oxygen tanks from Sears for $10-15 depending on your Sears location. They're made for welding, though, so I wouldn't be trying to breathe from them.

roughly how much are they there (first to get the tank, then to get it refilled)?

I'm not sure...I've only purchased Argon/CO2. I dont remember how much but I did have to buy the actual tank on my first purchase. Wasn't too pricey, though.

There is a store around my area that sells medical supplies, maybe I'll check into prices there for one of those oxygen tanks you see life-long smokers toting around...

Yes you can. You just can't breathe it in for very long. The world record for breath holding is 13 minutes, performed by a guy who took one breath of 100% oxygen. You're thinking about pure-oxygen diving. Which is almost 100% pure oxygen, but you can't go very deep.

NH3 appears in nature as a natural substance that results from decomposition. it is a colorless gas with a pungent odor.

I dont think you can get medical grade oxygen with out a perscription... you'd also need a regulator for the amount of O2 you are perscribed... and like dtyn said you can breath 100% pure O2 just not 10 meters under water...

You cannot breath welding oxygen last I checked...
